We've now lost 3 chickens...sad times. We aren't used to this country life! I won't go into the details of how they died because its sad and there's no need.
But I did just want to say that we were totally open and honest with Felicity about them dying. She wanted to see one of them when it died and said goodbye to her. I really believe that children of a certain age don't understand the concept of heaven or in the stars and that it is fair to them to be honest and open. So I have decided that is how I want to be with Felicity. When we talk about my Dad, I say he isn't here anymore and that he died because he was ill. When she is older, I will change the way I tell her things, to explain things in more detail and to help her not to worry. For example, I will explain that my Dad was ill, people get ill but that not everyone is going to die at that age and people usually die when they are old. Morbid conversation but I think it is important. It's important to me when I have been through so much grief. Jessie X

I never win anything, in fact, I cannot remember the last time I ever won anything!
I did the tombola the other day at a Christmas fair and spend £2 on tickets and didn't win a thing! I have treated myself to a new Olympus PEN camera for Christmas with my Christmas money so I entered the Olympus PEN Advent Calendar competition on Instagram and won! I won a gorgeous silver clutch bag for the camera and a black leather strap for the camera. Very very chuffed! Jessie X We were lucky enough to be offered a photo shoot by the loveliest lady. She suggested having it on the beach and I was well up for it! We decided on a beach close to us due to time constraints, and I am so happy we picked Talland Bay and the time we met, because the sun was setting and it meant the photos have the most amazing sun light in them. I am over the moon with how they've come out and will be sharing them for a long long time! Jessie x Photographer - Natascha We've had out first loss. Our first chicken to go... & we have no idea how! We left the chickens out overnight by accident (so they had access to the whole garden and their coop) and when my Mum went to check on them in the morning, we only had 4 left. The orange one, Mrs Guidetti is gone! I have subsequently (about 5 days after she went missing), found, what looks like a chicken leg on the road. The road is quite far and much higher than where the chicken coop is so I have no idea whats happened but I think she may be in chicken heaven! I can only hope that she is making sand baths & eating lots of leftover where ever she is... Jessie X I'm going to be honest, I just haven't had the time to blog recently.
I've been working quite a bit, had a trip to Bristol, had a lot of pain with my teeth and had a training weekend. How is everyone else? Jessie X Bit of a random title but sorry for the radio silence...we have been in Toronto!!!
We spent the last 2 days travelling back and we are all exhausted but happy. We had the best trip and I will be sure to upload some photos from the trip. But have a look at my Instagram because I have been uploading there. Jessie X I’m still struggling with the whole diet thing when it comes to this fitness malarkey. I ordered the red Joe Wicks book and it sounds really good but its putting it into practice and it’s also the expense of eating ‘cleaner’. So for now, I am going to carry on with what I’m doing, treats at the weekend and curb the sugar intake in the week.
I have found that I have wanted to exercise and as I couldn’t make the Crossfit class the other night because of childcare. So we went down to the garden and I found an exercise session online and took a screenshot down there. It started off really well as Flicky thought me running was hilarious! (thanks babe!) But then I started doing star jumps and she hated it! She said “no Mummy, stop” and tried to physically stop me. I tried to distract her with the chickens and the slide but she said “are you okay Mummy?”, bless her. It’s probably because she has never seen me exercise before! Other than when I used to run with her in the buggy! I finished the workout and Felicity was happy to go back up to the house. I’ve got Crossfit tonight so hopefully I enjoy it as much as I have been. I am taking my little cousin Rosi with me, so that should be fun! X Our girls…Audrey (my one), Camilla, Mrs Guidetti, Gloria and Pebbles (Felicity’s chicken). Don’t ask me why we got 5, we agreed on 4 but then because I wanted to name one, Joe said we had to get 5!
We did loads of research before getting them and it’s actually what Joe asked for, for his 30th birthday present! We went to visit Annie Halls Poultry, near Bristol and she was so helpful. But we actually ended up getting them from Nibley Bird Farm, near Bristol, and they were great as well. We went for 4 hybrids (good egg layers) and one pedigree, as she would hopefully lay blue eggs. And Pebbles does lay lovely blue eggs! They are my favourite eggs to eat. The types of chickens we’ve got; 1. Light Sussex 2. Cou cou Maran 3. Cream legbars (blue egg layer) 4. Rhode Rock 5. Rhode Star They don’t take too much looking after and they love being out of their coop and wondering around the garden. We used to have them in a smaller coop and smaller garden in our old house and they got on fine there. Joe hand made both chicken coops, from lots of research online and Pinterest! We buy their food in bulk now, seeds and layer pellets. And they roughly lay one egg a day. They won’t lay like this all year round, but we use them all up when they do lay lots! If I’m honest, I’ve never been a massive egg fan but having them fresh has made all the difference. The dog loves them and is really good with them. He is a little bit obsessed by Pebbles and we have no idea why! All he wants to do is sniff her bum! Poor girl. Felicity's also taken to them quite a bit recently and is trying to pick them up! She also loves chasing them into the coop to put them to bed! *heart melts* They are great characters and I am so glad we got them. Jessie X We have been looking for new ideas for a home for our Tortoise Falfy. The one he is in is fine, but its a little bit in the way on the terrace and I want something a bit bigger. So I started doing some research online at enclosures and look at what I found! Its like Tortoise heaven!! I am excited to start to look at ideas for how we can make a super special one for him, that Felicity will like looking at and helping with. I am thinking of putting it at the back of her playhouse so we can all see him but also because it is dead space back there. Its on a massive slope and is currently a bed for weeds so I am going to get Joey to build some sort of platform for him! I have mainly put the gallery below of photos so I can come back and look at all the best ones I found online! Ha! Jessie X Images taken from Pinterest |
