Our girls…Audrey (my one), Camilla, Mrs Guidetti, Gloria and Pebbles (Felicity’s chicken). Don’t ask me why we got 5, we agreed on 4 but then because I wanted to name one, Joe said we had to get 5!
We did loads of research before getting them and it’s actually what Joe asked for, for his 30th birthday present! We went to visit Annie Halls Poultry, near Bristol and she was so helpful. But we actually ended up getting them from Nibley Bird Farm, near Bristol, and they were great as well. We went for 4 hybrids (good egg layers) and one pedigree, as she would hopefully lay blue eggs. And Pebbles does lay lovely blue eggs! They are my favourite eggs to eat. The types of chickens we’ve got; 1. Light Sussex 2. Cou cou Maran 3. Cream legbars (blue egg layer) 4. Rhode Rock 5. Rhode Star They don’t take too much looking after and they love being out of their coop and wondering around the garden. We used to have them in a smaller coop and smaller garden in our old house and they got on fine there. Joe hand made both chicken coops, from lots of research online and Pinterest! We buy their food in bulk now, seeds and layer pellets. And they roughly lay one egg a day. They won’t lay like this all year round, but we use them all up when they do lay lots! If I’m honest, I’ve never been a massive egg fan but having them fresh has made all the difference. The dog loves them and is really good with them. He is a little bit obsessed by Pebbles and we have no idea why! All he wants to do is sniff her bum! Poor girl. Felicity's also taken to them quite a bit recently and is trying to pick them up! She also loves chasing them into the coop to put them to bed! *heart melts* They are great characters and I am so glad we got them. Jessie X
